From Royal Courts to Digital Boards: The Evolution of Indian Ludo

At the core of Indian culture is a game that continues to be played today; although it has gone from being played in the palaces of kings in ancient India to being played on screens. Indian Ludo, which is actually an advanced form of the traditional Pachisi, can still be found and is very popular today. In this blog, we will look at how the Indian Ludo has progressed over time, integrating into the digital era while maintaining its vintage appeal.

What is Indian Ludo?

The game that we now know as Indian Ludo is an interesting combination of both skill and strategy and it has been derived from the old game called Pachisi. In the past, this was a game for the elite who played it on huge boards but now it is a small board game which is dear to us all. The objective of the game is to move pieces called “goti” according to the number of dice and get all of them to a safe position known as home. Ludo is a straightforward but captivating pastime that will always be associated with bringing people together in one big family.

How to Play Indian Ludo Game

Setting Up the Ludo Game

Get 2 to 4 players and put the board on a flat surface if you want to play Indian Ludo. The first thing each player should do is to select a color from red, blue, green or yellow and then move their playing pieces to the start of that particular color. This game will only use one dice but it promises to be very interesting.

Understanding the Game Board and Pieces

There are four quadrants in total, one for each player in a square Ludo board. In this game board, every quadrant is supposed to guide you towards an endpoint which is referred to as “home”. It is very important as it enables one to know where they should be safe and the route followed towards home since these can completely change the outcome of the game if not well taken care of.

Rules of Indian Ludo

  • Begin the game by rolling the dice to get your pieces into play. A token is only permitted to leave the starting space when a six is rolled.
  • The dice roll determines how many spaces a token moves as it goes across the board towards its destination.
  • There are some parts on the board that are safe for any token; they cannot be taken there by an opposing player.
  • Landing on an opponent’s piece forces it back to its starting position and may even provide bonus moves for the captor.

The Popularity of Indian Ludo

One reason why Ludo is very popular among people is that it is a simple game that has a lot of culture in it. This game is played widely in social functions as well as cultural events. However, the emergence of this game into the online space made it gain more fans, some of whom play on Wowzy, that have free and paid modes for competing with others and winning cash prizes. By evolving digitally, there are now many interesting spin-offs that stay true to the original form but prevent boredom over time.
